Welcome
I am so please that you have decided to continue your journey into the world of Instructional Design for Digital Learning. This course will introduce you to many new concepts to help make your online course more engaging and interactive. The Instructional Design process is sure to open the door to new possibilities for you and your students.
Community of Inquiry Overview
The Community of Inquiry is both a theory and framework for creating interactive online learning experiences. The book introduces the framework of the Community of Inquiry as a combination of Social Presence (the need to be a part of the group), Cognitive Presence (the need for knowledge and self-actualization) and Teaching Presence (the guiding light through the journey of learning) (Garrison, 2017). This would be the "how" of "How to create interactive online courses?" Garrison then goes on to review how to put this framework into practice with different ways to create courses with educational technology in blended courses. This is the "what" in "What makes an online course interactive?" Next, Garrison reviews how to check for understanding through assessment and evaluation to make sure that students get the big idea of the course. Finally, he takes a look at possible organizational issues and a brief look at the future of CoI (Garrison, 2017).
